Gerald's 1st Word

18-Jan-2010 - Monday mark the week that Gerald start to speak his 1st word.
No body really able to guess his 1st word as his 1st word is not papa, not mommy nor nen nen or mum mum. His 1st word = "APA" probably this is the word that he pick up from his kakak. So everyday he woke up and will say "apa" to me, and hopefully sooner he will able to say papa and other word.

The words "U know"

6-Mar-2009 Friday - Recently when Vernon is talking to anyone of us. He love to use the words : You Know........into his sentence.
We also wonder where he pick up this and join these 2 words into his sentence.
just like the American love to use.

How he use this words :
Vernon :
**You know, i went to Tesco with Papa & mommy.
**You know, Koko Joshua gave me paper and pencil
**You know, I play the drum.

etc....................

How to Spell or what alphabet the words start with

5-Mar-2009 Thursday - Lately Vernon love to post Q to us.
The Q he asked is "How to spell ????" or what words start with the particular alphabet.

He normally will gave us a "words" and then ask us to spell the words for him.
not sure did he pick up any of the spelling if we spell for him.

Words he ask :
house
pillow
instruments name - Violin, xylophone, drum, flute..................
Moon
water

Other than this, he also will ask what alphabet the words start with.
just like he asked us what instrument start with V, or start with M.
then we have to response to him that is Violin & maracas. sometime if we say there's no instrument start with that alphabet, he will argue with us......................Got.

Mommy's talkative Boy

17-Feb-2009 Tuesday - Last weekend, after we went to Ah Mah house for dinner and so coincident my sister also going home with Joshua & Jolene. We went into our car at the same time as my Sister's. and They left earlier, so out of sudden Vernon can't see their car in front of us. Then He start to post a Q to us................

1st Scenario :
Vernon : Where is Ee & Joshua koko?
Mommy : They went home loh
Vernon : Mommy, Where is Ee's House......show me.....show me.
Mommy : Can't see from here. wait till next weekend mommy bring you there. Okay!!
Vernon : Okay.

2nd Scenario :
These few days, on our way home.

Vernon start say......this is not my house.....this is not my house till we reach our gate.
then he will say, this is my house.................................................

He did the same in the morning when I drop him in Nai Nai house............he will count/and say this is not nai nai house till we reach in front of Nai Nai house.

My lovely Boy

15-Jan-2008 Thursday night : As usual I & James had dinner at ah mah house after work, then only went to fetch Vernon boy home. When we reached Nai Nai house, we saw thru the window seeing Vernon was sitting alone on the living room sofa and smiling while watching "DIBO" his favorite Cartoons. We wait for while only open the gate & get in.
The moment we wait for Kakak Wati to tidy up Vernon's stuff, preparing to headed home. Usually we were reading newspaper, chit chat or watching cartoon together with Vernon.

Tonight, James was telling me some of the recent issues about our apartment's management things. He was not happy about how the management handle the residence money. Therefore, James's voice was a bit high in tone than usual tone, then Vernon boy thought that his Papa was angry at his mommy. He quickly go down from the Sofa and go to his papa and close his mouth with his hand, then he told his papa............................

Vernon : You stop!! no angry at mommy.............................okay
I laugh & laugh at James. ............ then told James-see your boy was so protecting his mommy.

What a Lovely Mommy's BOY.!!

Words : "Stupid"

The other day when we were shopping@ Island plaza, and Vernon saw other kids running around the shopping place touching the display things @ the kids corner.
our of sudden, he shouted at the 2 girls about age 4 to 5 ........

Vernon : U.....Stupid girl.
Mommy : I almost want to go hide myself and immediately close his mouth.
Vernon : Again, U.....stupid no touch.
Mommy : No.....Vernon they are not stupid. stop saying that words.
as I saw the girls mommy is around there and I was very embarrassed how this boy warn the girl with such words. A minutes later, remind me that he pick up the words from his daddy.................James use to score those people driving too slow or too fast....."stupids." and here he pick up the words.

Same for another incident where we were dining at PSC, Vernon saw the kids in the next table running up & down around the place. He score the kids - "stupid" as well.
We have to correct him as this is not call "stupid" but "naughty".
The kids are just like a blank sheet of paper or copy cat. They will copy whatever good or bad we did. As a parents, we have to be cautions on every words we say and in our daily conversations.

Writing skills

We bought a few writing exercise books from popular for Vernon to start learning his writing skills. And I found 123 or numbers is easier for them to pick up compare to alphabets. As I see Vernon use to join the alphabet by linking few lines instead of follow the normal writing sequence.

I decided to start from here, but I do face a problem where Vernon do not want me to hold his hand while writing. He always told me, no mommy.............Vernon write.....................

mommy only can watching and no holding. He very too Independence till we cannot disturb his capability or writing skills.

This is Mine

lately Vernon love to use the words --> "THIS IS MINE."
Whatever he have in his hand......fruits,food or books or the TV cartoon he is watching is all belong to him. and he will response to u.......this is mine.

I am not sure where he pick up all this words and we just worried that he had the mind-set of not sharing. why i said this is, i saw an incident...........just a week ago.
-->last week when we were at the Popular book fair in One-Stop. Vernon was standing & watching in front of a TV that promote the story books with the reading pen for kids. Initially he was alone watching and later on there's 2 kids joining in. And Vernon aware that they are watching the TV, he is pushing them away and told them......."this is Mine".
I immediately told him..........no......the TV is share share one.......is not belong to Vernon.
however he still keep telling the other kids, the TV is his one.
Alamak........................I really have no idea how to pull this boy out. this only way is I told him there's more books at the back room, let's go together with Mommy.

What is this?

19-Jul-2008 - We bought a picture dictionary and start to train Vernon as much words as posisble. However, those words that he already knew...........he will ask the question back to us.
Vernon : What is this?
then I purposely gave him the wrong words of the picture that he pointed to.
for exp :
If he pointed to the clock....
Mommy : this is a watch.
Vernon : No.....mommy this is a clock................
then I laugh....laugh......this prove that he is testing us.

**Per Dr. Sim......if a kids know > 300 words by 2 1/2 years old. He can be consider as above average.
I remembered last Saturday, when we make a visit to Dr. Sim for Hepatitis B jab. Vernon saw Dr. Sim wearing the stethoscope, he told Dr. Sim......"stethoscope."
then Dr. Sim asked, can u spell the words : "stethoscope"..............if you (Vernon) can spell out the words.
He will sponsor him scholarship on his eduction. becoz he told us that his son can spell words at Vernon age. and we should start at the most difficult and long words for them instead of those easy one.

Cannot see Mommy

Lately Vernon use to say cannot see mommy, Vernon Cry.
especially when he stay at MIL house while James & I away to work.
I can feel the bonding is even closer, sometime Vernon cannot even let me walk away a minutes.
especially I went to washroom for a bath.

Calendar days

Last 2 weeks I started teach Vernon about our calendar days :

Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday

He already managed to speak out Monday - Sunday. and even can say tomorrow.
but every time u ask tomorrow is???
He will always tell u tomorrow is Monday. as I still can't think of how to let him understand the calendar day is moving.

Papa's big Boy

27-June-2008 Friday - Friday evening when we were in MIL house, Vernon start show his monster attitude. what he did?..............he ride his bicycle in the living room knocking the cupboard. After the 1st knock, James told him to stop knocking the cupboard.

James : Stop knocking ah...Vernon.
Vernon : Vernon very angry, papa naughty...........you stay at nai nai house.

We all shock about what he said, nai nai told us that he always speak English at home.
After when we reached ah mah house, we told her about this. Then ah mah said, he is actually follow us as we used to told him, if u naughty u will stayed at nai nai house.

STOP

Recently my Vernon boy love to sing his favorite song :

*1 little 2 little 3 little Vernon, 4 little 5 little 6 little Vernon, 7 little 8 little 9 little Vernon, 10 little Vernon boy. (I thought him as Indian boy but he change it to by using his name).

MIL always complaint that the words he sing was not clear enough. and want me to help him by following Vernon to sing every time he sing the songs so that he can sing it perfectly and clearly the next time. However, Vernon boy won't allow me to interrupt him whenever he sing the songs. and what he did is he will say
..............."STOP" mommy "STOP"
and he even smart enough to use his hand to close my mouth to shut me up from sing together.
and sometimes, if he don't like the song u sing. He will also say "STOP" and he change the song.

The other day I was talking to James as I am a bit worried that he always want to rule other people to follow him, not sure will him follow the teacher when he went to nursery or not.

I don't Want

Lately Vernon love to say the words : "I don't Want"

Whenever u asked him want milk milk, he will reply - I don't want !!

the funny thing is the other day I asked him whether u want to buy a new swimming pants - he directly say - I don't want in front of the sales person stand beside us, the sales girl laugh at him.
told us he is funny and I have to walk away since he don't want and he definitely don't allow us to put on & try on the swimming pants.

Traffic Lights

15-May-2008 - Tuesday
Vernon boy very alert and likes to keep track of every traffic lights that we passby on our way home or when we going out. He normally will tell us :

Vernon : Papa Green go, Red stop !!

whenever we stop at a junctions ready to go or ready to stop.
I found it interested to note down so that I can knew when he started to understand the indication of traffic lights.

Together

6-Apr-2008 - He started understand the words "together" and how to use it.
the 1st time he use is when he talked to me :

1st time
Vernon : Mommy sleep together with Vernon

2nd time
Vernon : Mommy Papa sit together with Vernon

3rd time
Vernon : Vernon go shopping together with Papa mommy.

Spell Out Name

13-Mar-2008 thruseday - Nai nai have dinner so I have to pick up Vernon from MIL place after work. When I reached there, nai nai told me she wanted to ask Vernon to show me something.
Hmmh......something new he learnt???
Correct.............Nai nai ask Vernon to spell out his name Vernon.

Vernon : V-E-R-N-O-N....................Vernon.

Wow.............this is really something amaze me as I didn't know that he is capable of spell out his name. This is the first words that he able to spell without look at the words.
When we went home, I told James about it. James reaction is......................he don't believe it.
prove it to him after dinner.
alright................after dinner when Vernon is reading his book in my room. I asked Mr.James to come to the room. Then I asked Vernon boy to spell his name.
He spell out without mistake, James so happy and also amaze with his son achievement.

Saturday, When we went to Ah mah house. again Vernon boy go and show off to everyone in my family that he is able to spell his name

Magic Words

2 Weeks Ago - I talked to james that how to help Vernon to say the polite words when he want something and after he get something.
So we think a perfect way to hint him to say those words else he will not get what he want.
what is that???
Everynow and then we will hint him by telling what is the "magic words" when u ask mommy to get u the books?
He then will straight away tell us : Mommy books please.
and if his kakak bring him something, he now knew how to say "thank u"
Don't u think this is so great and perfect way of helping our kids to talk in the 禮貌 way. and eventually he will remember once he pick up.

Papa & Mommy's Name

7-Mar-2008 friday Vernon start able to tell his mommy & daddy's name : Hurray !!
When people ask : What is your papa's name in mandarin? he will tell u -->papajames
When people ask : What is your papa's name in mandarin? he will tell u -->Mommylaysi (not say very clear yet)

8-Mar-2008 - Thursday night I had a company dinner, when i got home and meet Vernon.

Vernon : Mommy want apple
Mommy : U really want apple or orange?
Vernon : Never mind..
Mommy : I laugh and took an apple from the fridge for him and told him to bring the apple to kakak to cut it into 4 for him.
Vernon : Quickly ran to kakak whom is in the kitchen to cut the apple for him.

Now Vernon's capability of learning new words is so strong, he sometimes even can mix english, malay words together. Like the other day he told me : Vernon masuk leg under pillow.
and Mommy's books heavy (when he want to move his books from book shelf to his reading table)
